That is why it is interesting. The role of Hell and Apocalyptic visions in spirituality is not "to scare people so they behave", that is a massive misconception. You simply cannot find the truth of things if you are afraid of exploring all of it, as ugly as it is.

The movie (and the animes) show "some" of the interesting stuff, its a good starter, but the manga is on another level. They have to censor quite a bit both in violence and sex/rape/weird shit and never got to the later parts of the story. Its an exercise in "unbound" fantasy.
