I agree there is a negative feel overall related to the appearance of AI generated images, but I'm not entirely sure it's the images themselves as much as the lack of other art and real energy of creation simply lacking online.

There are also immense ecosystems of bots online now, not just the ones on 4chan but mainstream media has reported on the armies of bot accounts on FB which are posting reaction-bait AI images. Bots are then replying to the bot posts, and they keep feeding each other in strange loops at high speed, where the image generators create more content of the kind which other bots liked.
