Because of the leniency of being an astral race, switching to reptilian-based total core didn't move my awareness outside of my body in a strict sense, it rather made it possible for me to still maintain the same body after the lifetime expired, in the form of being now a shapeshifter who is shifting back to my same old body.

The vampire body can function in the same way, because vampires are also poltergeists, it depends more on if you are "done with" your current life or not if you have to move there directly at once or not. That's why it's possible to "register" an incarnation and not use it yet.

The Adaptive Yokai Human is by nature a kind of poltergeist, with some heavier DNA than reptilians, so they won't change as easily, but the body layer can contain most previous body form seamless, they will be as reptilians when shapeshifting: the look like the person they replace, even if that person is you replacing your past body to stay in the same role for some while longer.
