Well, they broke up at least 1 time in the earlier seasons as far I remember, so that ain't new, the new stuff will be that they ain't getting back in the same episode, instead they will remain separated for some episodes, so if we get into fandom ignoring episodes for the sake of an coherent story continuity,the fandom can clearly ignore Lori and bobby eventually going to be together again (because we know they ain't breaking that ship) in a episode and use the breaking up to kickstart any fanfic surrounding Lori, likely related to her paired with another character ,likely Lincoln.
Honestly I would want for the staff to actually try to make something convincing enough that the fandom (at least the normies one) would actually believe Lori and bobby ain't coming back, or at least making anything possible to make the dream boat episode (the one in were Lori is in that date show) not be that clear about them going back, just because of the drama and show it will generate in the fandom.
