Pfff... Jesus, I could write you a whole paper on that.
For starters, there's this concept of "LosTech", literally "Lost Technologies", weapons and systems lost to time because the factions have been at constant war for nearly 700 years, and nuking each others factories. SO much to the point that people no longer know how to build and maintain things like Gauss rifles, or rotary autocannons, or even things as simple as heat sinks. So there's tech that's extremely rare, and if you find it, extremely valuable.
But it's like... really? You can't figure out how to rebuild a double heat sink. It's literally just a larger version of the standard one you literally weld to the fucking mech. Just like- ducttape two together, and it's the same thing.
Or you know... man, I have a mech 'tech that's so capable at his job he can literally rebuild my fusion reactor powered mech from parts, but he can't take apart the two incredibly rare Gauss rifles I have in storage to figure out how to make more. They have to be rare... because, no one is smart enough to reverse engineer them, because reasons.

So if one gets DESTROYED on a mission, sucks to be you.
