his whole point is: the world is fucked, you're much better off alone
he also goes on how age makes then things we used to obsess about during our youth absolutelly irrelevant in old age
for the most part, he rants about how stupid most people are (that alone would make the book worth reading)
anyway, what he tries to convey is that if you have at least some intellectual calliber, you will sooner or later realize that there's nothing real in this world besides higher arts/intellectual duties
