I put it on before a shower. I leave it in for 30 seconds as directed, then wash off immediately in the shower. Do not leave it longer. Start off using once a day. I still wash my face in the shower by scrubbing it but more lightly as it dries out my skin.
If you get any redness or peeling, stop for a few days. I still get nasty acne and it isn't a cure but my acne spots don't go on for weeks of annoyance. It probably isn't a long term use but it has helped me managed it a lot better.
The 5% is pretty harsh, do not use 10% to start off. There is a 2.5% spot cream but you need to wash your face after a few hours.
