A computer scientist claims humans will live on digitally by the end of this year

A computer scientist is urging the world to record their elderly parents and loved ones as he predicts consciousness could be uploaded onto a computer this year.
Dr Pratik Desai, who has founded multiple Silicon Valley AI startups, said that if people have enough video and voice recorders of their loved ones, there is a '100 percent chance' of relatives 'living with you forever.'
Desai, who has created his own ChatGPT-like system, wrote on Twitter: 'This should be even possible by end of the year.'
Many scientists believe the rapid advancements in AI, which ChatGPT is spearheading, are poised to usher in a new golden era for technology.
However, the world's greatest minds[kek] are split on the technology - Elon Musk and more than 1,000 tech leaders are calling for a pause, warning it could destroy humanity.
On the other side are other experts, like Bill Gates, who believe AI will improve our lives - and it seems other experts are on board with the idea it will help us live on forever.
Desai is on the side of Gates, believing we can recreate our dead loved ones as avatars living in a computer.
The process would include digitizing videos, voice recordings, documents and photos of the person, then fed to an AI system that learns everything it can about the individual.
Desai did not provide many details about his idea of the technology, but former Google Engineer Ray Kurzweil is also working on a digital afterlife for humans - specifically to resurrect his father. The scientist continued to explain that his digital father would undergo a Turing Test, which is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.
'If an entity passes the Turing test, let alone a specific person, that person is conscious,' Kurzweil said.
Along with uploading memories from the dead, Kurzweil also predicts that humans will reach immortality in just eight years.

For COVID-19 Clues, Researchers Look to the Sewer

In the past, Mia and Amy have worked together to trace outbreaks of disease back to contaminated water in places like lettuce farms and water parks. What they’re doing now is the flip side to their previous work—starting with contaminated water and using it to identify pockets of illness.
When people get infected with COVID-19, pieces of the virus can be found in feces. So when researchers like Mia and Amy find those bits of virus in sewer water, “we know there’s somebody in that community who has COVID-19,” Mia says.
By taking many samples over time, they can watch whether the amount of virus in those samples is going up or down. That might tell local health departments whether an outbreak is getting better or worse—or provide an extra insight when other data are murky.
“The trends in the sewage concentration have been shown to be a leading indicator in numbers of cases,” Mia says. “When the number of COVID-19-positive samples in sewage go up, 3 to 7 days later, the number of reported cases go up.”
Although this approach to identifying COVID-19 is still experimental, the science is not. Wastewater surveillance has been used in countries where polio is still a threat to look for evidence of polio in a community. In the United States, it’s been used as a way to estimate opioid drug use in a community by testing sewage for chemicals left behind after the body digests those drugs.
Amy and Mia are still trying to work out some details, such as how the amount of virus in a sample relates to the number of cases in people and how fast the virus can decay in wastewater. But tests across several states are under way. If successful, they hope this approach could be used as an additional tool for the current pandemic, as well as to look for other health issues, such as foodborne illness or resistance to antibiotics.

Drawing on materials and methodologies from a variety of disciplines, this class explores the diverse experiences of women in past eras and in the present, and in the U.S. and abroad. Required for the women's studies major and minor.

WST 3323 Gender, Bodies, and Health 3 Credits
Examines how gender is "worn" on the female body. Adopting a feminist interdisciplinary approach, explores three themes: cisgender female biology in social context, bodily practices concerning food and exercise, and disease (i.e., cancer). Examines intersections of gender, race, class, and disability, and role of activism/policy changes in improving people's health.

WST 3325 Violence Against Women 3 Credits
Approaches all forms of violence against women as a continuum and challenges assumptions regarding violence against women with empirical evidence. Adopts an intersectional approach to fully understand violence against women. Explores the transnational dimensions of violence against women and local specificities.

Gender dysphoria is the term for a deep sense of unease and distress that may occur when your biological sex does not match your gender identity. In the past, this was called gender identity disorder. For example, you may be assigned at birth as a female gender, but you feel a deep inner sense of being male. In some people, this mismatch can cause severe discomfort, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.

Causes
Gender identity is how you feel and identify, it can be as a female, male, or both. Gender is typically assigned at birth, based on a baby having the outward appearance (genital organs) of either a male or a female as per a social construct of a binary system of two genders (male or female).
If your gender identity matches the gender assigned to you at birth, this is called cisgender. For example, if you were born biologically as a male, and you identify as a man, you are a cisgender man.
Transgender refers to identifying as a gender that is different from the biological gender assigned when you were born. For example, if were born biologically female and were assigned a female gender, but you feel a deep inner sense of being a man, you are a transgender man.
Some people express their gender in ways that do not fit into traditional binary social norms of male or female gender. This is called non-binary, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, or gender-expansive. In general, most transgender people do not identify as non-binary.
It is important to mention that the anxiety transgender people may feel due to having the body of the wrong gender is deeply distressing. As a result, the transgender community have higher rate of mental health problems and risk of attempted suicide.
No one knows exactly what causes gender dysphoria. Some experts believe that hormones in the womb, genes, and cultural and environmental factors may be involved.

Symptoms
Children and adults can experience gender dysphoria. Symptoms vary, depending upon a person’s age, but most people want to live in a way that matches their gender identity. As an adult, you may have had these feelings from a young age.

Children may:
Insist that they are the other gender
Strongly want to be the other gender
Want to dress in the clothes typically used by another gender and resist wearing clothes associated with their biological gender
Prefer to act the conventional roles of the other gender in play or fantasy
Prefer toys and activities conventionally thought of as of the other gender
Strongly prefer to play with children of the other gender
Feel a strong dislike of their genitals
Want to have the physical characteristics of the other gender
