Ian is half the internet aficionado we are. Just another discord redditor, like half of the posters here.
Possum is the real legend of Australian interweb folklore. If only you guys knew.
Everything Nuro claims, is actually a truth about Possum.

Also, couldn't remember how to spell aficianado. Thought it was 2 f's.
Apparently in Spanish it means amature.
Funny how that works.

When English borrowed the word in the 1800s, it originally referred specifically to passionate followers of Spanish bullfighting (aficionados de los toros). Because those early devotees were so deeply obsessive about the technical nuances, history, and rules of the sport, English speakers began using "aficionado" to describe a "connoisseur" or "expert fan." [1, 2, 3]

Over time, English dropped the "amateur" connotation entirely. Today, if you call someone a "cigar aficionado" or an "art aficionado," you are praising their highly refined, expert knowledge, even if they don't do it as a professional career.
