Newspapers have devoted several pages to tell readers what they're supposed to believe and that it was a very sad day. Other news are about how streets named after the period still exist. This is a bit hypocritical given that the 1930 military coup is politically correct and acceptable (every city has an avenue celebrating GetĂșlio Vargas, who also brutalized dissidents, and eminent institutions are named after him) and the 1889 coup is even celebrated as a national holiday.
