In Hungarian terminology we use:
1. tank from English
2. páncélos from German Panzer (or páncélozott harcjármű = Panzerkampfwagen)
3. harckocsi = "combat car" which I'm not sure of the origin.
But in the terminology of military history our WWII armoured divisions are called páncélos hadosztály and only as the communist era starts the term harckocsizó hadosztály comes into use as a full replacement of the previous. I dunno the Soviet/Russian expression they use, but when events of WWII are discussed Hungarian historians use the harckocsi/harckocsizó hadosztály for the Soviet tank divisions. I also don't know if they only use it to differentiate or it is the term itself, but from this it seems to me, as we adopted the Soviet military organization we also adopted the terminology with it - or at least this would be my guess. Or maybe during the communist era they just wanted to purge the "fascist" words.
