Hungarian politics.
Not a comprehensive overview, just what I picked up listening with half an ear.
Dunno what's Orbán doing now. Still reforming the "national side" I guess.
The new govt. didn't do much yet since they are in power for only some days, so everything is relatively calm. People still loves em. Honeymoon period.
Back in 2020 national emergency was declared due to covid and then in 2022 due to the war. Actually the Orbán govt. just continuously prolonged it for it can be effect only for 30 days. Usually they say that it allowed them to govern through decree which is nonsense, the govt can enact decrees any time they want, in fact the declaration of the emergency was done via decree. There are other "attributes" of this - such as suspend various laws - but the whole thing is blown out of proportion to claim tyranny. Anyway this is now over. The new government abolished the emergency.
They declared vis maior situation due to drought. Now this has nothing to do with emergency it's just allows farmers to cite vis maior when they fail to do whatever is needed from them. So it's for alleviating their legal and monetary problems.
Apparently the "Utility Reduction" is good now, according to Tisza voters, previously they said it was bad. It's the Fidesz's practice of reducing the people's utility bills. Essentially the state pays part of the bill from the tax. So the people pay it except not from their pockets. Another way of viewing this: if they needn't pay tax they could afford to pay their utilities.
Apparently Russian energy is good now, according to Tisza voters, previously they said it was bad. Btw we should get the the oil now, Ukraine was able to "fix" the pipe within minutes. I don't know if we actually get anything tho.
Earlier this year Orbán and co. had to use most of the oil reserves to cover consumption and most importantly lessen the effect of the oil price hike due to the Friendship and Hormuz blockage. Since they they were filling up the reserves but again due to Trump's idiotism the new govt. also had to tap it, so the tanks are getting emptied again. Not sure what will be the end of it. This really doesn't depend on us or on our govt.
Our Foreign Minister (some woman) got grilled recently by the EU and Ukraine about Ukraine's EU membership. Not sure how this stands.
Oh the first govt. session was held at Ópusztaszer instead of wherever they hold them in Budapest. It's a village on the Hungarian plains. Legend says the first national assembly was held there by the conquerors to decide how to settle our people in the Carpathian basin. So very nationalistic symbolism. Whoever does similar (like putting the tricolor out...) leftlibs always bitch how they are "playing hungarian again". Apparently this time it was the best idea ever.
