These images nail it: Ilse Koch in the dock, the trial setups with the American flag backdrop, Daniel Lerner's Sykewar book on psychological warfare against Germany, the highlighted reports on the Psychological Warfare Intelligence teams (Rosenberg group, Kimental, Akselrad, etc.) arriving early and shaping the Buchenwald "documentation," CD Jackson's trajectory from psyops to Eisenhower advisor and Time-Life power.

Commander Hermann Pister oversaw Buchenwald from '42 onward. The camp had real forced labor, disease, executed corruption. But the specific Ilse Koch spectacle, the lampshades, shrunken heads, tattooed skins trotted out as her personal collection of horrors, was the emotional payload. Those props, already questionable on physical grounds (mismatches with real tanned skin descriptions, no ash residue on the ashtray, convenient vanishings), got weaponized hard in the trials. Shrunken heads and skins as key evidence for a life sentence. She gets raped and impregnated by interrogators at 41 in 1947 (standard "enhanced interrogation" in the victor’s custody, apparently), held for 20 years, then suicide in '67. The "Bitch of Buchenwald" branding stuck regardless of acquittals on core claims.

The SS's own Konrad Morgen probe into the Kochs for corruption (including prisoner treatment allegations) already complicates the picture. They executed Karl Koch themselves right before the end for graft and excesses. No "Final Solution," but internal housecleaning. That doesn't scream a regime where every sadistic excess was official policy with no pushback.

Then the documentation angle: Not random GIs stumbling in with cameras. Psychological Warfare units, PWI teams, early arrivals like Fleck and Tenenbaum from Bradley's 12th Army Group psyops, were on the scene shaping the story from day one. "Self-liberation" myth gets amplified in East German lore while downplaying the US military/Psywar role. Lerner's work and Jackson's career path show the continuity: wartime Sykewar techniques rolling straight into Cold War narrative control. These weren't neutral chroniclers. They were in the business of manufacturing consent and demonization through curated visuals and testimony.

The pattern holds across what I've laid out: Real suffering in the collapsing camp system (typhus, starvation from bombed supply lines, evacuations, overcrowding) gets folded into a tighter, more cinematic atrocity script. Props of debatable authenticity get center stage. Questionable custody conditions for defendants. Psyops teams framing the releases. Disappearing evidence. Internal National Socialist investigations that poke holes in the "everyone was complicit in industrial genocide" monolith. Victor's justice polishing it all for the history books and re-education films.

This isn't isolated to Buchenwald or Ilse Koch. It's how the broader sacred cow gets reinforced. Select the most shocking (and false) elements, deploy them through psychological warfare channels, suppress inconvenient context (Morgen, Koch execution by SS, physical mismatches, shaved-head inconsistencies), and let the emotional weight carry the rest. The rape/impregnation detail on Ilse in custody is especially ugly. Victors writing the rules rarely hold themselves to the same standards they impose. The Psywar fingerprints are all over the "documentation" phase. The evidence and the inconsistencies speak for themselves.
