"Using Quantum-Limited Sensors to Listen to Biological Systems"
Ultrasound is an important technology for imaging biological systems, but the traditional means for generating and detecting ultrasonic waves limits the resolution such systems. Here, I will explore the possibility of pushing ultrasound imaging to the cellular and sub-cellular level using technologies used to probe quantum mechanical properties of vibrations in solids. I will then discuss a few examples of how ultra-high-resolution ultrasound could lead to new diagnostics for disease.
