Yeah, about three years ago. He had two reasons for it:

1) The characters had been established for several years and their dynamic was based around being Clyde kids. He felt that changing things up ruined their character and made them blander. Vale felt that it was a good idea in the short term but it caused problems in the long term.

2) He felt pressured into changing their origins because he thought he was losing control of his characters. Over time he began to lose interest in them and started disliking the whole idea. He decided he wanted to do things with his characters that would please himself instead of trying to please others.
