Nice bird with silly name.
Birds are completely disappearing here. Haven't seen anything noteworthy in ages. Even the crows are getting less and less and we don't have street pigeons at all. The only ones thriving are wood pigeons who originally were migratory forest dwellers who only came to central Europe in summer and remained very rare in cities. Now they live here all year long in the suburbs and increase. They don't form flocks and are solitary and very shy. Much larger than common pigeons.

The other is the collared pigeon, originally from Turkey. They expanded NW due to a genetic mutation which determines the course of migration and arrived in Germany after WW2 but remained rare. Now they're also increasing. Like the wood pigeons, they're not pests and generally don't bother anyone because they only form very small flocks. They also make nice coo-COO-coo calls and are generally well-liked. But that's it. No spectacular birds here at all. You'd think climate change would bring us southern treasures like Orioles or Bee-eaters, but nope.
