I'm not sure I understand. Is there any point in converting PNG to FLIF? Unless I'm misunderstanding, loss will have occured before conversion, in the same way that converting a GIF to APNG won't improve it.

There is no loss and the file size is significantly smaller. So it's all about the reduction in file size for the same results. Think zip vs 7z.
