I was looking at a T490s a few weeks ago and decided to ask about it. The /g/ opinion was it's not as good as getting a T480 or T14 G1 if you want newer. Apparently it has poor repairability and the cooling isn't as good. The one I saw was only $150(212 aud), so still pretty cheap. Didn't get it, but I wasn't seriously looking either. Not sure how much matters to you in all those regards. Other reviews I saw for the t490s seemed favorable, but it all comes down to what you want and care about.

A lot of the Intel laptops have just straight bad battery life because they can't do anything at low power draws. Just double check whatever era you're getting is fine for that.
