What do you do and how do you properly respond to a long-time friend who is kinda starting to "lose his marbles" as in obviously mentally unstable and having issues with coping with reality? I won't get into too many details but one friend I have had since I was a child is really starting to concern me when I talk to him over the phone. It's as if he is becoming extremely unhinged, angry, mad at the world, paranoid and it is obviously causing social problems for him now. It is getting to a point he might end up burning too many bridges and might end up doing something really stupid. I honestly do not know how to respond to him and if I say something ' ' wrong ' ' he tends to go into fits of rage, screaming and cussing. Poor guy has already had problems with drinking and heavy drug use in the past, I do not wish to see him going back in jail or worse. If he does not get a job soon he may end up homeless and begging for charity. How would you go about this if it were a good long-time friend of yours?

I would tell him that having a job is necessary for survival, and that he should probably pander to his childhood self by consuming things he did in his childhood, and that he should take cold showers more often. If the internet is causing this behavior you should remind him that the internet is serious business.

Already told him to stop doom scrolling and take breaks, get some fresh air, go for walks. Sadly I think it's his 'fall of the wagon' phase again before using and abusing and eventually, yet again, arrested. Only reason I really care is because he is a good long time friend of mine and I hate to see him kill himself or ruin his life.

I myself had problems with abusing drugs and heavy drinking back in the day. I'm still a functional alcoholic but no more drugs. I'm DONE with drugs. Part of me had to let go of my worries and concerns in life and let go of my emotions and care for the world. Once you understand and accept the cruel joke called life and inevitable death you care less and it makes using less gratifying. One big reason people use is because they care too much, not the opposite ironically.

Cold showers do wonders nevertheless, look up their benefits

Tell him to watch movies, watch the movie of life, or get the fuck out by killing himself, because this place always ends in death, and there is no way out but death. It's a torture chamber. Always remember that. It never, ever gets better. Money never gets you anything you really want, and the effort to get that money is never worth it. The world is a pure and total illusion.

It is a false reality that tries to sell you things or convince you to come back. Do you want gold bars or diamonds? Do you want to be rich? What can you buy when you're rich? Nothing of any value.

Do you want to be seen on a screen? You will die anyway and no one will remember.

It's an illusion.

Concluded the same now all there needs to be done is more drinking and video games.

THE END.

I think he has meth psychosis. Talked to his sister recently and she said she noticed he was behaving differently too, even calling her up super early in the morning all paranoid and shit. Yep, he's back to tweaking on meth! He has gone down this rabbit hole before. Every time, no fail, becomes delusional and paranoid, making wild accusations, fearing the end is nigh and everyone is against him, every fucking time. He'll end up getting arrested, AGAIN, but since he's already on probation next time they might send him to prison to serve hard time. Depending how bad he makes this for himself I guess.
