Photos from consecration ritual of Russia's new Martian Monastery :^) for the Orthodox church some months ago.
I quite like it, from purely aesthetic pov, ignoring how much did it cost, who paid for it, which oligarchs embezzled thanks to it, etc. The preponderance of the military green and similar dark tones give it a very sober and grave mood. The nave is very ample. I imagine soldiers in standing formation. Photos look spectacular, almost cinematographic, but most likely they are "retouched".

Cathedral and general architecture thread I guess

Tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam meam:
et portae inferi non praevalebunt adversus eam: et tibi dabo claves regni caelorum.

Also Christianity = Holy scripture + Holy tradition

Also
John 21:25 ►
>And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

So, even if something is not in the Bible, it doesn’t mean it should not exist. Early Christians used catacombs, modern Christians are using cathedrals.
Although op-pic is definitely not Christianity.

The floor is really drab, giving the impression of an Air Force hangar, but on closer look is ornamented.

A bit kitsch. But kinda like that Mary painting. What does the gesture of her right hand want to express?
All those relics in the neck of that dual-wielder master swordsman really shows who's the boss.

There's a large population of Greek Catholics on Ukraine so don't be suprised.

Pics related is Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. It was consecrated in 4th century but the building was actually almost completely destroyed by fire in the 19th century. Still, they managed to rebuild it in the original style which imo puts to shame creations of late 20th century of this kind.

Officially "Main Cathedral of Russian Armed Forces". Some kind of weird WH40k cosplay.

Also it had mosaics with Stalin and Putin, but after some discussion they were replaced.

Floor
The floors of the cathedral are metal. The metal has come from the melting down of trophies, weapons and tanks that were seized from Wehrmacht forces. As visitors walk across the floors of the cathedral, it is intended to symbolise the "delivering a blow to the fascist enemy

At the very end of the the 19th century Sultan Abdul Hamid II gave a plot of land on Mount Zion to Wilhelm II German Emperor when he visited Jerusalem. The Kaiser donated a sum to build a temple for the Virgin Mary. This became the Church of Dormitio Beate Mariae Virginis, placed in the care of the Benedictines (Abbey of the Dormition) in 1906.
It was built in a style that amalgamates neo-Romanesque and Middle Eastern Muslim building traditions, giving resemblance to the Aachen Cathedral for example. It was designed by Heinrich Renard.

In the middle of undercroft the statue of Mary can be found. Carved from cherry tree. Above on the ceiling Jesus calls his mother, among Mary's "precursors". Her dormition isn't part of the New Testament, only Apocrypha report the event.

Bernd 02/14/2021 (Sun) 10:09:04 [Preview] No.42584 del
Around Mary, in recessed chapels, the altars of Catholic countries can be found. Among them Hungary's, called Patrona Hungariae.
Above the altar in the center sits Mary and in her lap the baby Jesus, ornated with the Hungarian royal insignias: Mary holds the scepter, Jesus the globus cruciger, above them angels hold the Holy Crown.
On their sides Hungarian saints from the House of Árpád got places. To their right Saint Stephen and Saint Emeric, to their left Saint Ladislaus and Saint Elizabeth.
Below them, on the white marble altar in copper relief four saints from the early Christianity. Saint Stephen (the first martyr), Saint Simon, Saint Thaddeus (patron of desperate cases and lost causes), and Saint Cleophas.
The altar was consecrated in 1931.
The mosaic of the vault was made by Muzsinszki Nagy Endre. His work was the original cover of the altar in the Basilica of Agony (Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane) from 1932 to 1949 when they changed it out with the work of an Italian artist.

>His work was the original cover of the altar in the Basilica of Agony
Oh, this can be misunderstood. I meant another work of his. See the grayscale photo.
Btw the Hungarian Coat of Arms can be seen on the mosaic of Pietro D'Achiardi (whose work was used posthumously, I think it was a painting originally) and apparently this led to the confusion that Hungarians generally (well those who know about this anything) think it is the work of Muzsinszki's.
