I didn't finish, but liked the experience of reading Subjunctive - a story about the Changeling invasion of Canterlot but it was all about the proposed differences in how Changeling language works.
Since words can fascinate me, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I also started in on Project: Sunflower, which about a gal turned into a pony so she could spy on Equestria, since Earth was facing a gray-goo scenario and needed someplace to run to.
The reason I started on that, was I'd offered to critique a piece written in that universe that focused on building the apartment complex that would house the last billion people expected to be alive and retrievable by the time it had been cleared to begin construction.
That title, that I forgot, would only be interesting in you were fascinated by plumbing, and other engineering concerns. I could go either way, and this one didn't grab me since it was focusing on committee meeting drama and miscommunication, rather than the actual engineering of the building.

I skimmed through some of it and liked what I saw so far. It looks the kind of thing that I think was looking for: Off the beaten path from the big fics of old I see circlejerked while also not being something that was the reason people circle jerked them (Low tier self inserts and one shots). Can be interesting, can be not. HiE fics of this sort I don't autohate but have been done to death. I have always liked some of the anons' input around input so I'll give it a shot.

I think this can be summarized as: Why have what happens in slack at work be the driving force of the plot? Plumbing, I known little but I can get engrossed in something if presented interesting enough.

This is one of those stories that I thought wouldn't be my cup of tea, but the slightly comedic and more "cartoony" mad scientist feel of it I liked. I think what I liked about the most was the "comfy" feeling of Rainbow Dash and Sweetie Belle working together and sneaking around. It is still pretty dark and serious Rainbow Dash is trying to undo Twilight Sparkle's untimely death, after all. I will say I haven't read this in years and some stories I have revisited that I misremembered or now dislike them.I still think it fits though with your requirement of something that is good but a bit off radar.

I don't think you should beat yourself up too hard over this. This was a place to dump excess files and you work with a lot of big files. I have a dump drive (not that big) where I have a similar thing going on with no back ups. It is a calculated risk and you just got lemoned.

How many of your drives are external versus internal? Does your case not have a lot of room or was the external thing more for convenience of cold storing it?

Dislike messing with internal drives? I can understand that with screws. My main desktop is somewhat beat up Optiplex 320 that has screwless hard drive caddies that are pretty easy to slide drives in and out (downside, it only has two slots fro drives... and is VERY old). There probably is something better than that with modern cases or 3D printing in some of them (unless that is some tech that is hated for some reason or another and went out of style and I am just unaware of).

More lessons to be learned:
(a.) 3 copies of something is better than 1, so "always" have at least 2 copies of something.
(b.) If there is a delay between creating at least one backup copy of something, then you might end up screwed.

For (a): even went deleting /z9/youtube after copying it to another HDD, I was thinking that might not be the right move (less able to operate locklessly and stuff). I could have kept the 2 copies, then when the 3 copy was created: then and only then I could have deleted 1 of them.

For (b): I was more focused on adding stuff to zb and less focused on getting backups of stuff on there. For reasons stated above, I didn't think zb would crap out on me after only about 30 days of being powered on. Also, I thought of zb as being used as a backup HDD itself instead of having lots of exclusive data.

As usual, before deleting >300 GB folder "/z9/youtube" I created an index of it. Here that is (I'm now using grab-site to check which of the >5000 YT video IDs are 404 or not):

They're mostly external HDDs. I have only ~7 TB as internal HDDs. I have like 17 external HDDs, and ~4 of them are dead (2 of them died in an "expected/non-issue" way). (All "external HDDs" are the same as internal ones: only difference is the external ones have an enclosure which has a thing to switch the connector to USB.)

Maybe we could use the /end/ for archiving comics and check them out if we are bored or we have nothing else to post for hiatuses or dead periods.

As far the way a comic should be posted, instead of posting 5 images in just one post, I think it should fit a balance: 1 image for the first (the cover) and then two pages, feeling like you are a reading a physical one.
I am posting Tempest´s one for now but yayponies has all of them and we can share some opinions or make them visible over here...just because.

Another review I guess.

This comic was rather meh. It is serviceable as a kids comic but compared to similar slice of life in G4 I found it a bit lacking in... something. I am not sure if this was merely simple and predictable after coming off a somewhat lore heavy story with a major G4 character or if it is G5 more modern setting making such a story feel rather mundane compared to what would occur in G4. I am someone who does not object to slice of life or view them as "filler" but this just left a bit to be desired.

I mean, something like this I could see as a "for fun" side project, but I am not in tune with the comics (I need to get back to it though...) and I can easily imagine, from the angle of FiM G4, them both running out of ideas and trying to not do anything big to contradict whatever is going on in G5's comics/show. I have no idea how this will work compared to the old FiM threads. Provisionally this thread will be for the movie and Season 1 of G5. If enough discussion is generated a separate thread will be made for each season like normal.

Hopefully we can at least some fun and enjoy some side aspects of this even if it turns out poor or more likely, mundanely average over being worthy of hype or hate.

As per usual, a little late and a bit of a bumpy landing. Went through way too much struggle just to get a handful of posts out. Outside the site going offline when I first tried this. It wasn't Endchan's fault, but a variety of IRL factors on my end.

Bye to what has been one whirlwind of a thread. Certainly bore witness to a lot of changes and am haunted that when this thread was made, the show was still on the air. Even if we were far from the golden days (however one defines them), it was still something of a golden time for me in many ways.

It might be a lemon. In mass manufactured products, especially electronic devices, there is always going to be a few that fail for no good reason other reason.

Another thing: Did you order the drive online? If it was shipped to you, improperly packed or mishandled, it might have a impact on its life even if it didn't cause it to fail right away.

Sometimes cheap drives can be scams, even when they say its new, ebay, amazon, and newegg sellers are a little notorious for it. I am assuming this is new.

You have seen that the book concluded its story but the next scene would (implicitly) happen around adult Twilight reading it. This means that the fans are up to open it again and revive those memories like they did for the first time. Plus, some newcomers have never seen it at all, so it wouldn´t be fair to put this gen to the void all of a sudden, not to mention that Luster Dawn represents one of the many undefined paths that we have yet to see or write about in the fanfics. The timeline keeps going.

Yeah, netflix is suspect. Though I do not know the level of influence they have on the show. I saw some anons speculate that they were the reason Hasbro moved production. Yeah, the movie may not fully reveal the show's tone either as it's being handled by Boulder Media with the old production team in Ireland but the show's production was moved to Canada being done by Atomic Cartoons (whoever they are) and apparently had a few staff from FiM unexpectedly back (a good sign I suppose).

Our first announcement for G5 detailing the story also was horrible in this exact way. Fortunately it appeared to just be describing things in the most wokest way possible as oppose for everything being that level of crazy from all other indications we have seen so far, though I suppose one never knows till we see it.
