Australia Deploys World's First Law To Fight Online Extremism

In the first application of a controversial new law passed in the wake of the March terror attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand, Australian authorities have ordered five websites to remove extremist content or face prosecution, according to the Financial Times.

The material includes video taken by the Christchurch attacker, as well as videos showing the beheading of a Scandinavian tourist in Morocco. All five sites are based outside Australia, according to the country's eSafety Commission, which was granted the power to investigate and order the removal of extremist content back in April.

Under the new law, social media companies, websites and even ISPs can be fined up to 10% of their annual revenue, or see their chief executives sent to prison, if they fail to remove 'abhorrent' or 'extremist' material.
Julie Inman Grant, Australia's eSafety commissioner, said on Monday that three of the five websites Canberra was targeting had taken down the offensive material, and no prosecutions had yet been initiated. She said the decision by the three sites showed the potential of threats of prosecution and fines.
"These are fringe websites that revel in gore and hatred. All of them are based overseas," Inman Grant said.
In a separate move, Canberra ordered Australian ISPs to block access to eight other websites that continued to allow access to the video of the Christchurch attacks or the shooter's manifesto.
Inman Grant said that while there were jurisdictional challenges involved in overseas prosecutions, "I expect in the next five years we will see a proliferation of similar regulators seeking to do the same thing."
However, critics of the law say Australia's ability to enforce the law is limited.
"A lot of these rogue websites are Mickey Mouse operations with little or no revenue and so it’s very hard to hold them to account," said Fergus Hanson, a cyber security expert at the Australian Security Policy Institute, a Canberra-based think-tank.

First thing I thought of was the result of Fukushima. I saw a computer model made by China of what would happen with the initial (first day) fallout dispersion over time. It was animated and showed the particulates movement in the Pacific, both towards China and towards our hemisphere. The map shown in the article looks very similar.
What was most striking to me is that the model (animated gif) was based only on the initial release - the day of the meltdown, NOT any further release. Unfortunately, there was more released after the initial meltdown PER DAY than the meltdown day itself.

Combine this with the "microplastics" we're inhaling and injesting along with the CFL that people stupidly put in the local landfill and it's a wonder we're not mututated more. I don't believe Fukushima put enough particulates into the ocean to affect solar absorption. Microplastics, on the other hand, might be widespread enough to do so in a limited way. Finding them in virtually all marine life is a tell.
However, I think the current thinking is that the reflection and absorption of solar energy from particulates in the atmosphere dwarfs those effects.
I'm not climate change guy, but particulates in the atmosphere is an anthropogenic product.

If one searches "effects of particulates on solar absorption" they'll find a lot of info on solar absorption and reflection in the atmosphere. These effects would have more effect on atmospheric heating than warming the oceans. I will grant that a warmer atmosphere will transfer some of that heat to surface water. That is possibly to account for the warming we're seeing in the article, and which was entirely ignored in the article.

Institutional investors holding assets worth $11 trillion have now pledged to divest from fossil fuel assets, a significant jump in the number committing to clean energy, a report said on Monday.
A growing number of investment and wealth funds have been looking to pull away from fossil fuels and shift to renewables, especially since the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.

The $11 trillion figure was released in a report as part of the "Financing the Future" summit in Cape Town for advocates for investment in clean energy transition.

More than 1,000 institutional investors are committed to dropping fossil fuel assets, including wealth funds, banks, insurance firms as well as scores of city councils, universities, and religious organisations.

By comparison, institutional investors with holdings of $52 billion in assets had made the same commitment in 2014.

"We are seeing a clear shift away from fossil fuel investments in every sector," said Clara Vondrich, Director of Divest-Invest, one of the report authors.

"Coal, oil, and gas assets are being recognised as toxic -- not just morally due to the climate crisis but also increasingly financially."

The $11 trillion figure represents around 16% of the total global equity markets in 2018, the organisers said, citing World Bank figures.

Activists for fossil fuel divestment say it is one way to reduce carbon emissions by pressing investors to get rid of shares, bonds or other assets in those companies.

Across all business sectors, global companies responding to pressure from society and shareholders are looking for low-emissions ways for growth that are "Paris-compliant".

But oil and gas projects set up by major fossil fuel companies over the last 20 months threaten both shareholder value and efforts to keep Earth from overheating, according to an analysis released last week.

Greenhouse gas emissions stemming from new investments totalling $50 billion could push already tough Paris climate treaty goals for capping global warming out of reach, warned Carbon Tracker, a non-profit financial think tank.

Earth's average surface temperature has gone up 1C since the late 19th century, and is on track -- at current rates of CO2 emissions -- to warm another two or three degrees by century's end.

The Paris Agreement calls on humanity to block the rise in Earth's temperature at "well below" 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) compared to pre-industrial levels, and 1.5C if possible.

Flynn Hearing Reveals Existence of Bombshell DOJ Memo Exonerating Michael Flynn

A bombshell revelation was barely noticed at National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s hearing Tuesday, when his counsel revealed in court the existence of a Justice Department memo from Jan. 30, 2017 exonerating Flynn of any collusion with Russia. The memo, which has still not been made available to Flynn’s attorney Sidney Powell, is part of a litany of Brady material she is demanding from prosecutors. The memo is currently under protective order and Powell is working with prosecutors to get it disclosed, SaraACarter.com has learned.

U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan presided over the hearing Tuesday and set a tentative Dec. 18 sentencing date. He told the prosecution and defense that the sentencing date could be moved depending on the outcome of requests for Brady material requested by Powell and how the case will unfold in the upcoming months. Sullivan also noted during the hearing that the Brady order takes precedence over the plea agreement.

Powell will likely seek to have case dismissed for ‘egregious’ prosecutorial misconduct and withholding of exculpatory material.

“Judge Sullivan is obviously taking the Brady issues very seriously and clearly told the prosecutors that his Brady order stands regardless of the plea agreement or the plea,” Powell told SaraACarter.com. “If the prosecutors here were seeking justice instead of a conviction, General Flynn would not have been prosecuted. They have been hiding evidence that he was exonerated in early 2017.”

Powell noted the extraordinary misconduct of the government during the hearing. She also said that Flynn would have never pleaded guilty if the government had disclosed the Brady materials before the original trial that she is now demanding. There would not have been a plea if the prosecutors had met their Brady obligations, Powell argued before the court.

Powell’s discovery of the memo shatters not only the narrative that was pushed by former Obama Administration officials regarding Flynn but also the ongoing narrative that President Donald Trump’s concern over Flynn’s prosecution amounted to alleged obstruction.

Think about it: As far as I know, the Director of the C_A [BRENNAN-at that time] answers to/is just under the DNI/Director of National Security....so it stands to reason (if I have my timeline correct) that Flynn was above Brennan (who we know is an evil, traitorous piece of MB garbage)and was aware of the shit he was engaged in; but due to the incredibly rampant corruption there was nothing he could do with the info back then...then POTUS comes along. Q already said they knew Flynn would be targeted/attacked from the beginning, but once he is publicly cleared of all charges, he can use that information to help bring the others to justice.
