China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) has made further progress in the construction of polar expedition cruise vessels ordered by US-based SunStone Ships.

On September 5, 2019, CMHI held in Haimen a keel-laying ceremony for SunStone’s third Infinity-class ship, Ocean Victory.

Moreover, the shipyard cut the first steel for SunStone’s fourth new vessel, Ocean Explorer.

Designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, Infinity-class X-Bow vessels are 104 meters long and 18 meters wide. They feature a capacity of up to 200 passengers and 115 crew members.

The vessels are Ice Class 1A, Polar Code 6 and are being built with Safe Return to Port, Dynamic Positioning, and Zero Speed stabilizers.

SunStone Ships has placed orders for up to ten expedition cruise vessels in the Infinity series at the CMHI yard. The vessels will be delivered between 2019 and 2022.

The first expedition ship in the series, Greg Mortimer, is scheduled to be named on September 6, according to Ulstein. The newbuild will be chartered by Aurora Expeditions.

The United States has blacklisted an “oil-for-terror” shipping network allegedly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for providing millions of dollars worth of oil to Syria.

Additionally, a new international shipping advisory was issued on IRGC’s use of “deceptive shipping practices” to facilitate transactions, thereby violating U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil sales.

The authorities also said that persons that engage in certain transactions with the entities blacklisted “may themselves be exposed to designation”.

“Iran continues to take provocative actions to destabilize the region and the world. Treasury’s action against this sprawling petroleum network makes it explicitly clear that those purchasing Iranian oil are directly supporting Iran’s militant and terrorist arm, the IRGC-Qods Force,” Steven Mnuchin, Treasury Secretary, said.

“Our actions over the last two weeks should serve as a strong warning to anyone considering facilitating the Qods Force’s oil sales that there will be swift consequences,” Mnuchin added.

The U.S. noted that in spring 2019 alone, the IRGC-QF-led network employed more than a dozen vessels to transport nearly 10 million barrels of crude oil, predominantly to the Syrian regime. These shipments, taken collectively, sold for more than half a billion dollars. The same network also sold nearly 4 million barrels of condensate and hundreds of thousands of barrels in gas oil, “bringing in another quarter billion dollars.”

The latest designation from U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) includes some 16 entities and 10 individuals pursuant to E.O. 13224, and is also identifying 11 vessels as property in which blocked persons have an interest. The IRGC and Hizballah, both identified as Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the U.S. Department of State, are also designated pursuant to E.O. 13224.

Washington on Wednesday announced new import duties on more than $1 billion in imported structural steel from China and Mexico, saying manufacturers in those countries dumped product on the US market.

The Commerce Department's findings, which are preliminary and could be reversed, follow a similar decision in June concerning Chinese alloy aluminum imports valued at nearly $1 billion.

Chinese and Mexican producers allegedly dumped fabricated structural steel -- such as I-beams, rods and joists -- at margins of between 0 percent and 141.4 percent, the Commerce Department said.

The department said it had rejected such allegations concerning similar products from Canada, however.

The findings were the result of a complaint lodged in February by members of the American Institute of Steel Construction in Chicago.

The decision comes after President Donald Trump in May agreed to lift punitive duties on steel from Mexico, which joined the United States and Canada in negotiating a new North American trade pact last year.

Last year, Mexican and Chinese imports of structural steel were together valued at $1.6 billion.

A final determination by the Commerce Department is due early in 2020.

If the preliminary findings are upheld, the duty increases could still be reversed by the US International Trade Commission, which examines whether the imports have harmed a US industry.

GREENWOOD - Authorities said a man who was caught having sex with show hogs will have his case presented to the Leflore County Grand Jury next month.

Andrew Lee Nash, 52, was arrested after police set up surveillance cameras in the owner"s stalls near U.S. Highway 82 and the Yazoo River.

Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said the hogs were examined by a local veterinarian, during a routine examination, and the owner was told that four of the hogs had a vaginal infection.

"The owner of the animals knew someone was messing with his animals," said Chief Investigator Huntley Nevels. "And the veterinarian confirmed the sexual assault. So, the owner contacted police and the officers staked it out and caught him out there."

Nash, who lives in the 700 block of Mississippi Avenue, was arrested at the scene and charged with 12 counts of unnatural intercourse.

Nash"s bond was initially set at $600,000, but later reduced to $60,000.

Nash remains in custody at the Leflore County jail.

Greenwood authorities said Nash"s case is scheduled to be presented before the Leflore County Grand Jury next month.

If Nash is indicted and found guilty, he faces up to 120 years in jail.

2.
