Lilith is not merely the embodiment of repressed desires; she is a vast realm of the unconscious that is encountered through esoteric work with her (I am not referring to deliberately influencing other people with the intention of helping or harming them). Lilith is cold calculation and proud solitude. Through conversations with people devoted to working with her, we have all come to the conclusion that she is one of the most merciless demons, and that her lessons are truly terrifying.
She teaches sovereignty, which in its early stages is sometimes experienced as unbearably painful, since dependency and illusion form the foundation of the human worldview. She strips them away, and therein lies her cruel aspect as the Dark Mother. Cut off the heads of every weakness; sever them from the suffering body in order to attain victory. Lilith grants a complete understanding of initiation through spiritual death, leading to unmatched calculation and emotional detachment in any situation.
Lilith frees one from the bondage of emotions and teaches the same to her priestesses. No, the priestesses of Lilith are by no means prostitutes, for the Queen of Harlots is only one of Lilith's many faces. These women may use sexuality to achieve their goals, whether for financial prosperity or personal fulfillment, but when necessary they are profoundly dispassionate and detached. They are capable of the highest form of love, and although they are often assumed to be intensely feminine, this is not entirely the case.
Recall the Queen of Cups card—this is one of the feminine archetypes that suits them perfectly: an innate capacity to feel rather than learned manipulation. Add to this the sensuality of the Queen of Wands, the intellect and severity of the Queen of Swords, and the practical discernment of the Queen of Pentacles, and you arrive at the complete woman who embodies the priestess of Lilith.
Such a woman is whole in herself and has no need to compensate for any perceived shortcomings through the presence of a man. One might even say that she is, in a sense, androgynous, since Lilith and Samael are traditionally regarded as two aspects of a single primordial essence. The attention of this Dark Goddess is a great honor—a path toward becoming, and toward understanding the processes that unfold both within this world and beyond it.
