On the mass of 18th September 2022, in my church there were these lectures:
Is 43,24 - 44,3
Hb 11,39 - 12,4
Jn 5,25 - 36
Isaiah 43,24 - 44,3
Reading of the prophet Isaiah
As such the Lord speaks:
"You burdened me with your sins,
wearied me with your crimes.
It is I, I, who wipe out,
for my own sake, your offenses;
your sins I remember no more.
Would you have me remember, have us come to trial?
Speak up, prove your innocence!
Your first father sinned;
your spokesmen rebelled against me
Till I repudiated the holy princes,
put Jacob under the ban,
exposed Israel to scorn."
Hear then, Jacob, my servant,
Israel, whom I have chosen.
Thus says the Lord who made you,
your help, who formed you from the womb:
WDo not fear, Jacob, my servant,
Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
I will pour out water upon the thirsty ground,
streams upon the dry land;
I will pour out my spirit upon your offspring,
my blessing upon your descendants.
Hebrews 11,39 - 12,4
Letter to the Hebrews
Yet all these (our fathers), though approved because of their faith, did not receive what had been promised. God had foreseen something better for us, so that without us they should not be made perfect.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.
Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.
In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.
Jn 5,25 - 36
Reading of the Gospel of John
In that time, the Lord Jesus said:
"Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to his Son the possession of life in himself. And he gave him power to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation."
“I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
“If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony cannot be verified. But there is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that the testimony he gives on my behalf is true. You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth. I do not accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me."
