Anyone know why Overman King Gainer had consistently good to even awesome animation despite it not being Gundumb?

Anonymous 04/16/2016 (Sat) 01:15:48 [Preview] No. 155 del
It's probably to make up for the fact that he looks like a goofy rastafari jellyfish.

I dig his design to be honest. And honestly I even love the goofy aspects of it, like the pouch he uses to store bullets. The design is just so fresh to me for some reason I can't explain. And this comes from someone who absolutely despises dreadlocks. Also this anime was the second I've seen use artificial muscle for mechs so appropriately and interesting. The first of course being Aurora Battler Dunbine.

I certainly think that King Gainer was the last good series that Tomino did and might even be Sunrise's last entry in to the old time mecha genre.

As far as me enjoying it or not, I guess it was ok. The show was about the MC getting to the final battle with gundam 0079 hijinks sprinkled throughout for comic relief. The OP is a keeper though.

>>157
Doesn't it look like he's cutting through that Dunbine unit you posted in the OP?

If you haven't seen the show yeah, I can't totally see someone confusing it for a Dunbine. I wonder if King Gainer is Tomino's attempt at making a less murder filled Dunbine.

I'll start with the worst. In typical fashion this crybaby is a pacifist inside a giant deadly robot complaining that war is bad while he kills things. He also has no redeeming qualities unlike Amuro, Kamille, or Rola Lola.

I can't stand this about Japanese culture. Too many characters in shows are like this, and most of them are in mecha if not Gundam exclusively.

Well Muv-luv's a niche that intersects with the vn crowd (the robots are pretty cool though) and I've never watched Fafner so I'd have to get back to you on that.

The girl in that was good and in that cartoony shota enforcing manga she gets command of a pirate ship. The F91 stuff was a neat spinoff and I would have liked to watch the show, but if I had to pick a time to end it I would still pick CCA. I guess since Takara was using Sunrise as a successful marketing platform that Bandai needed to as well so we got more Gundam even after it was time to move on.

I guess...sure I like the 90s some somewhat but it didn't need to go on as long as it did. Maybe it could have stopped at Turn A?

I'll get the obvious one out of the way; Shinji from Get in the Fucking Robot (but don't because then we'll all die, but you need to get in it to defeat other cool as fuck looking monsters and possibly save a friend or two, but not really because you'll end up killing him later ;) )

For as great a show was, Gurren Lagann didn't have the greatest designs. It was too organic, too cartoony, and it was because it was Getter.

I didn't like the Arc Gurren Lagann or the TTGL.
STTGL was fucking insane, but I guess at that point its not a mech, but instead a being of pure energy made of mechs.

On a scale of Eh to "I'd rather watch Patlabor" how much does Active Raid suck?

Bear in mind, 3DCG is pretty much a given in this day and age, no point in complaining about that.

You should try Fafner out. yeah it's a continuation of an early 00s show so you may have to see that first, but the action is good looking and the story is kinda neat.

Some of the tech in it is really incredible in this day and age with how much effort they put in to it. It's like someone doing the background played his fair share of games and obsessed about dancouga.

I am still haunted by how fucking good the fights are at the end of cour 1 in Exodus.

It had a nice little build-up towards the finale that wound up being disappointing.

Apparently Hackerlord Whathisface was the leader of a suicide cult when he was 5 years old and his little sister who he was trying to avenge was actually still alive and that's how they got him to back down.

Oh, and there's another season confirmed so it's likely this was supposed to have more episodes to make more sense out of all this.

Bay is more concerned with experimenting a way to make major league sports completely digitized while possibly supporting a marketing platform during the experiment.

The best appreciation for mecha came with Platinum's game because functionality, feel, and design was in the package. Bay has simple designs with a lot of useless detail that has no functionality and the show moved on human talent being overblown testosterone cliches. Pacific Rim was no better and could be a Transformers movie that had focus on jar heads and not football niggers.

What are somg of the best ships from shoot 'em up games?

Axelay is by far my favorite. It's because I like seeing to huge boosters slapped on a tiny ships. The fastpacks in macross are some of the coolest things to me.

I'll tack on Manbow because it's wild and goofy, even though it looking like a tuna. Also despite the gimmick for aerobot transformer in Guardian Legend the ship mode looks pretty cool!

I love the mechanical design in Gleylancer but man is the ship pretty lame.

So I go and get all the Donpachi games from MAME and they run pretty well, but the newest one is impossible to find a rom for. The series all it's cracked up to be. I mean the design is cool but plastering bullets all over the screen and not the most happening music isn't really engaging me. That super short game Mushihimesama they have on Steam is much shorter but is a better game than any of these I played.

The only reason we consider Symphogear mecha is that Hibiki is considered to have 熱血, it's actually a magical girl show. That goes the same for Yuki Yuna and Nanoha. But while we're talking about Nanoha: the only thing mechamusume in it is Subaru and Ginga are cyborgs while the Grimore agents are digital constructs.

But are digital constructs mecha? Is Cortana or Shodan mecha?

Digital constructs are mecha, they're AI after all that have to inhabit hardwired machinery.

Although Cortana after Halo 4 goes full Forerunner light construct tier retarded.

I just picked this up today and for some reason it has an American vibe to it. Kinda like the old Phantom 2020 or Aeon Flux for some reason. Doesn't help that it plays old music like you only seem to find in Fallout anymore which are US games.

It's pretty cool but the drumming MC gets on my nerves. I was never the greatest fan of naturally talented drummers and that's how they usually act.
